RE: PIC OF SITTING ON A GOONEY

Biker,
10-4 I got to Midway like 7-2-70 & somehow managed to hold onto that roster. I have one other on the other end of my tour March 71. The cuts had started to take place then [ie less manpower in AO]. There were 3 guy's at the 2001 Reunion in SD who were on that listing I sent you but can't recall their names now. I made them each a copy you would have thought I had given them $100. They were thrilled.

Hey Richard.

We're having a small Midway reunion in Bellevue next weekend on the 26th. Any chance that you can come by for a visit? Several of us from the group will be there. We'd love to meet you. smile

Thank you again for welcoming to this site....looking forward to being involved with the past islanders...I had a little speech therapy in the very beginning.....but I really never lost to much of my speech....they mostly worked on my swallowing...I do speak slower and more deliberate than I did before...

Well Biker Dude the Air Ops Muster I have for July 1970 does include the 2 names you mentioned. These 2 guy's were in AOM division. PR3 J P Huey & AMS1 D K Kolb
A Lt Starns was AOM Div Off with CPO Gilchrist as LCPO.
I Spelled the Ltjg who dunked the H-34 name wrong it is Grapoli no e on the end. Good looking wife!!
I could scan you a copy of the roster if I had a e-mail address for you & If you want it.

Hey, Bad, we were on-Island at the same time!!!  We're building up a little group here!  (The others are so young...............)  Glad you are re-couping!  Yes, this Group will keep you on your toes and up your vocab skills!  You have to do your own typing but your wife can verbally help you with spelling!  Did you go for speech therapy?  I'm a Speech Therapist, that's why I'm asking.

Well, if that's the case, we aren't just glad that you're here among Midway friends, we're fortunate that you're here. smile I hope that we give you some mental aerobics. I'm amazed at how much I remember while chatting here that I had forgotten after all these years.

And heck, I still type with two fingers.... one finger at a time. (laughs)

Thank your Honey for helpin'. smile

Here's a picture of the Reef Hotel. It finally fell down.

This picture was taken by John LaFayette, personal friend of mine. biggrin He was at Midway in '64 - '65.

Hey Biker Dude Duck Butt 922 was at the Rock when I was there July 70-Aug 71. Sat on the hardstand watching that beast bounce. I went to Kure with Air Ops Boss CDR JJ Rollins in 922. I think 922 did a JATO take off from inside the lagoon / reef during my 1 st 4 th of July Midway Air Show 7-4-70. TRW might be able to confirm that. Gary had modern Helo's [H-46] not those old H-34 recips when you was "sitting on a gooney"

Take Care Keep those pictures coming.

I went to Kure a few times. Here are some pictures of one of the trips that I took.  http://www.midwayisland.com/pages/kuretrip.html

Hmm... You can preview the file names, but it doesn't preview the pictures.

Where does it stop working for you? I've never had anyone not be able to get it work yet... but there's always a first time for everything. biggrin
