RE: Japanese Destroyers on Midway 1964

We had a couple of Japanese flight crews spending a night on the island. At the time I had just gotten to the island and was doing KP duty for the first 3 weeks. It was breakfast and the cook brought out steaks to serve that day. I was further down the line serving pancakes, french toast and syrup. Each of our guests got a steak and then proceeded down the line. When they got to me they pointed to the syrup and then their steak. I shook my head, but I also put a big scoop of syrup on each of their steaks. Not sure if they thought it was gravy or what.

In 1970/71 we had Jap P-2V's operating out of Midway for a few weeks & we had Jap ships fuel up too.

Twenty years later. Time has changed. Add forty-seven more years and it seems unreal.
