During the days I liked to drink, I was one that did it with friends at bars, some of them went home and drank more there, I never did that, couldn't stand to drink alone, I probably had a couple dozen mixed drinks a week, then I slowly drifted away from those friends, now I don't have more then 4-6 drinks a year with the exception of a glass of a dry red wine with a lasagna or spaghetti, social drinking was fun though.

I love that song and have it in my MP3 player. When it first came out in 1974 I was 14 and had no idea what he was singing about for I was still a straight kid at that point. Later as I started to "Medicate Myself" on the weed I finally got it ..... To this day I still chuckle at that song when I listen to it.
On this subject I was quite the %Pothead% just before I joined the Navy. After is was once in a blue moon I would smoke it but as time went by I really just did not care for it anymore. It has been 10 years since I last tried some and before that about another 10 years. Again I have nothing against those who still partake in moderation but for me I did not like the way my short term memory was being affected by it.
For 30 years up till 2008 I was a hard drinker ..... Some beer but not much. Mainly Whiskey, Rum, Gin and in my final years it was Scotch. I drank just about every night of the week averaging 1.75 liter bottle every 4 or 5 days. Finally in 2008 with some getting older health issues starting to be affected by this I came to the conclusion I was just plain tired of being sick and tired all the time from this. The day came when I dumped it all down the drain and never looked back. It does not bother me to be around others who still drink and being of clear mind these days it is easy for me to spot those who can be moderate and those who should get help to quit.
I am a differant person these days who at the age of 51 is still discovering more positive things about my true inner self for the past three years that I never saw before.
When I was in the service there was just as much drug use going on as well as what was going on off base in most places I was stationed ..... Not to mention the drunks ... LOL
It has been over three years now since I gave up the drink (Cold Turkey) and now life to me is so much better ...... I highly recommend it.
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Sixty-four sailors from the San Diego-based U.S. Third Fleet will be kicked out of the Navy for drug use, mostly involving a synthetic drug that mimics marijuana, military officials said Thursday.
