Love the animation! I can still hear the "clicking" & "honking". A 6pack & I used to watch them dance for hours.

Mike DAAK might know since he was at MPC before FWS but if you can read the numbers on the side & they are the same then you would know for sure. The Navy Numbers every Fire truck similar to all vehicles & airplanes. Its like a License plate for that vehicle. I bet you are correct they probably just kept the best one & painted it yellow. There was a phase in the mid 70's to change Fire Truck colors from Red to Yellow & lime green for visibility. Now the Fire Trucks are red again but Airfield trucks are Lime green.

Howard,
I got your reply. Thanks. I wonder if that is a different truck of the same age or they just painted the best of the two and used it as is. HMM. Anybody know?

Gary R.....that is a great looking fishball, about as big as you are....the first one I ever found was a day on Eastern with my family, and still the prettiest as it was a light lavender, had it strung by a fellow who was great with macreme....hopefully it attaches...GS

It is nothing more than a couple of clicks. It's so easy that your claims of inability to do it are comical to me Fran. : ) Seriously funny stuff. Like I said, if I were to show you in person, you would slap your forehead and say "DOH!!! That's all it takes?".

Serious. : )

Howard,
You may remember this truck. I was the mechanic that had the challenge to rebuild the pump. I did so on both of the trucks, which were a set of 1958 International firetrucks. I was told when trying to get parts, that these were the only two of their kind still in operation west of the Mississippi River.  I also found a picture of a yellow truck. They were both red and used for structural fires when I was there. I also worked on the trucks for aircraft fires and on the refueler trucks.

Rick,
My recollection of the various horses is so vague now I'd hate to guess on the 4 wheel. I just know there were just about anything imaginable. One group member Gary Scott was there for 4 years starting in 70 with his family & he posted a photo once of all the hourses parked in front of the Commisary & Exchange in the Downtown area. Hpoing you can touch base with him.

Looking back, I wish that I had taken pictures of a lot of things that I didn't.  I took a lot of pictures of 'things' but not many of people.  Yesterday, I experimented with digitizing some of the many transparencies that I have.  Hopefully, a better procedure will present itself.

There were indeed many variations of horses.  No doubt you are correct in calling that three-wheel cycle a 'jitney'.   Were you there at the time that four-wheeled vehicle was roaming around?  It was ingenious.  The pedals did not power the wheels.  Rather, they were used to spin a heavy wheel that stored momentum.  Then, there was a belt that transferred the angular momentum to the wheels though releasing a clutch and converted it to torque.  I never got a good picture of it, but it was unique to say the least.

Rick

Well, Tex one of my biggest regretes at Midway was not taking very many pictures.
I failed to get photo's of shipmate's & in general lots of Island facilities. I didn't get any pictures of the variety of Horses that travelled Midway in the 70-71 era. They were only limited to imagination. We had lots of folks hang at the FD garage as we had tons of spare parts & machines to work on them.

One thing that kept us isolated was we [single guy's] were directed to steer clear of housing or else. We generally were on the boats on day off then off to the galley, exchange,Theater then EM Club. We didn't stray much.

Well, the surrey part could be a jitney, but to me -- it's a genetically altered horse.  :)  ...and a lot of fun.

I hope this is not a double post.  The first did not appear to 'take.'

It is painfully obvious which image is of which era.  The genetically altererd horse was borrowed from one of the members of the Fil-Am Society for some special amateur radio contacts.  The radio was functional and was quite successful until the battery ran down.

I play bagpipes for all kinds of ceremonies and services now.  I'm seldom in front of the camera for any other reason.  Sorry about that.

Hello!  I am glad I scanned my photos a few years ago, the images are degrading rapidly.

The first one is me on EM beach holding a brown noddy, April, 1976.
Next one I am sitting on the back stairs of the Wave Cage, August, 1976.
Then I am with one of my roomies with the NavFac bus in the background, July 1976.

And, finally, the last was taken August 4 on the ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton, WA, with the lighthouse in the background.

I'll start with my avatar which is me in 1973 during our first year back in the states (Florida) after living in Mexico City, Mexico for two years.

The first picture below is a group shot with me in the middle with the red T-shirt. This was taken on Midway 1984 during a Friday night party in barracks 578.

The second was taken in Miami last year.

Here's a few pictures ...

The first is a drawing and was done in 1976 when I was 21 years old -- my oldest son, Keith, was three years old at the time.

The second one was taken a few years ago when my husband, Don, and I went to Destin, Florida with his brother and sister when they came to visit. They live in the Seattle area.

The third is the most recent I have and was taken on Don and my 28th anniversary. Our 29th comes up March 11. It's been a long and hard trip at times, but I guess we're pretty much stuck with each other after so long. Actually, I'm very lucky he's been able to put up with me over all these years.  LOL

Okay, here goes.  These are all I have on this computer and most of you have already seen them...

The first one (B/W) is at the Midway Terminal.  I'm on the right in a ballcap.  I wore ballcaps a lot to prevent bird bomb from landing directly on my head from ferry turns???

The second is of me on my infamous Orioles baseball team at Hartley Field.  I'm on the far left, next to the catcher, and my Dad is on the top right.  If you want the names of any of the others I can tell you.

The third is of me and my grandson Aaden at a Marlins baseball game.

The fourth is from this past Halloween and resembles my avatar quite a bit...  hmmmm...

The final one is of me in the Bahamas this past year...

I'll have lots more of Midway once my final slide process gets done and I ship a CD to Gary!!
